The duties and functions of Bank Indonesia (BI) include setting & implementing monetary policies to achieve & maintain the stability of the rupiah exchange rate.

The stability of the value of the rupiah aims to safeguard two aspects of the macro economy, namely stability of the currencies of trading partner countries (exchange rates / exchange rates) and stability of the value of the rupiah against prices of goods and services (inflation).

Inflation describes the condition when the prices of goods and services generally increase in a certain period of time. This makes the value of the currency weaken. The opposite of inflation is called deflation, prices are lower than the previous period.

In line with BI's duties, at the beginning of each month the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) presents data on the development of the Consumer Price Index / Inflation.
